The Artist

Gabrielle Dudley makes artworks that are both practical and of a very high standard. She is highly skilled in most types of artworks and welcomes commissions of all types. For ideas and information please browse these web pages or phone the studio from 11am on weekdays.

Gabrielle works steadily and constantly mainly on commissioned projects, producing designs that can be drawn from photographs or studies of just about anything. Each work that she produces will be completely unique, and vary in style and colour, being made as each customer prefers. Even repeated tiles from moulds will be glazed in unique colours as much as possible, even though there are some that have the same glazes, they are necessarily individual as they have all been painted by hand.

Gabrielle studied Fine Art at Exeter College of Art in 1969, but after leaving there, spent much of her youth raising a family and working in Agriculture.

She returned to the arts in 1992 by attending Carmarthen College of Art to study ceramics, and followed this by spending two years as a technician’s assistant helping students with their very diverse projects. This has given her a very wide base of knowledge of ceramics and its possibilities. She began making tiles and mosaics for customers in 1997, having spent three years experimenting and producing work for exhibition.

She has since produced a very large quantity of murals, individual tiles, paintings, glass window mosaics, painted kitchen glass (for splashbacks and door inserts) and ceramic portrait cameos. Each of the works that are produced get the same level of care and are worked on until they meet her exacting standard.

She has exhibited regularly over 17 years of production, and has shown her work in London’s St. Martins, at the Tile and Stone Show at the Excel Centre in East London, at the Grand Designs exhibitions in Birmingham and at numerous other venues in Wales, Oxfordshire, Norfolk, Hampshire, Chicago and Belfast as well as having a presence at one day events such as the Reading show, the Royal Welsh, show Summer Craft Fairs, Food and River Festivals and Christmas Fairs all around Wales from Cardiff to Aberystwyth.
