Tile Making in the Studio at Gabrielle's Gallery

Hand painted in glazes onto specially created hand made tiles or on commercially produced blank tiles. Each project is individually commissioned and is totally unique.

Because each project is produced with varying degrees of complexity it is impossible to give a price list. If you have an idea of the tiles you would like you are welcome to discuss your options when a rough quote can be provided. Lead times can be up to six months, although three months is usual, so early commissioning is advisable.
One third of the quote given is payable before any design work can be undertaken.

Gabrielle has a talent like no one else I’ve met! In my head was an idea for tiles for our bath room, and another for the en suite and she made them come to fruition! The beach huts are so unique. I have to touch the daffodils and cowslips every time I see them, they make me smile!

She is full of lovely ideas, both with her art, and days out for young and old. When friends come to stay they ask if we can go to Gabrielle’s Gallery, and we are never  disappointed.

Past Commissions
Creating a private seaside in the bathroom.
Individual beach hut tiles are arranged in a row along the bath with textured sandy beach tiles underneath. A calming sea scene taken from an original painting (shown on the Gallery page) was printed onto glass and wall mounted as if a window.
The stages of production can be seen in the video below.
The best way to tile a curved bath panel
When given the task of tiling a curved bath panel it was decided to use mosaic to reduce any chance of warping making difficult to clean areas. The result is a beautiful composition of tiles and mosaic.
A touch of natural elegance.
Inspired by springtime yellow flowers recreated in relief modelling. The panels were set at 90 deg to the mirror and gives double the effect and a cubical feel to the basin area. The video shows the stages of making from initial drawing to the finished tiles
A colourful kitchen cockerel.
This cockerel cooker splash back was inspired by a sample kept in the Gallery.
"-like this one, but coloured and bigger". The design is largely the same as the gallery sample but not only coloured and bigger, but slightly textured as well. The video shows the various stages of its development.
Multiple tiles with the same design
Sometimes more than one tile of the same design is wanted for features in plain tiling. The original of this 15cm cockerel tile was modelled and cast in plaster so that many more could be taken from the cast. The inner border is for a 10cm tile using the same mould. This video shows the processes involved and a couple of kiln casualties to show it's not all plain sailing. Once a cast has been taken, up to fifty can be taken from the mould before it wears out. There are many moulds of different designs kept at the Gallery but new and unique designs can be specially made and are welcomed.
